I am sure almost everyone has had at least one encounter with an Angry Black Woman. I am not speaking of an encounter where two are engaged in conflict. I am speaking of seemingly umporvoked anger directed at any and everyone in the vicinity. It can be a very unpleasant experience. The sharp tongue, the cutting eyes, the.... gestures - the DRAMA.
Admittedly, particularly in the past, I have had angry black woman MOMENTS. I don't think my entire character would be classified that way at any point ever in life. Lately, I have tried to make a point to direct my anger at the cause, and not at random people who have nothing to do with my discontent.
My moments ofter occur when someone openly disrespects me or ignores me. Sometimes I am ignored quite possibly because of my size - I have been mistaken for a middle schooler on many occasions. But please don't make the mistake of ignoring me. This happens often in retail environments when people pretend they don't see me.
For example, I was in the Best Buy customer service line to get an exchange. The sales clerk skipped over me to help the man behind me. I was already pissed because I had been waiting so long, so I said, "excuse me, but I was here first". The clerk informed me that he was going to help the man because that is who he saw. So a sista had to get loud, because obviously he didn't understand me, in my nice, sweet voice. Eventually, I got my exchange. In the past, I used to feel bad about getting irate, but customer service in general is so mediocre now, I have no problems with it.
That is not the Angry Black Woman I am referring to, so when you see a Black woman "going off" for a specific reason, she is probably real cool and is only responding to provocation. I am referring to the Angry Black Woman who when she sees a brother with a white woman on his arm, rolls her eyes or makes loud nasty comments. I am referring to the woman behind the customer service counter, who acts like your very presence is annoying her, althouh she is at work.
I am referring to the backstabbing corporate Omarosa's and the girls who used to sit at the back of the bus when I was a teenager and try to intimidate everyone, and the ladies who pass judgement on you because "you think you are cute" or "you wanna be white".
Ahhh yes, black women in general do have reason to be angry. We are constantly disrespected by our own. Other black women outside of our circle tend to be suspicious, spiteful and jealous. A lot of black men are incarcerated, some date exclusively outside their race, and some others are sperm donors and "playas" who refuse to take responsibility for their actions.
Black women have often had to be the head of the household, single parents and sole breadwinners. Definitely a cause for a little anger. Black women often have to be more competitive, smarter, and more talented than their counterparts, often because of stereotypes, discrimination, and internal pressure. Don't even get me started on how we are portrayed in music lyrics, videos and films. Granted, films have come a long way - that's another discussion. Black women ofter deal with stress related illnesses at a higher percentage than any other race.
Yes, black women have a lot to be angry about - if we let all of life's things consume our entire being. Anger will turn to bitterness, which will lead to stress, which will lead to sickness.... my biggest fear is that we, as black women, will let the anger kill us. Please, for your own sake, just let it go. Forgive that brotha who hurt you, that co-worker or boss who overlooked you or the father that abadoned you. You are stronger than your circumstances. There are always positives.... focus on the positive, redirect the anger into a positive outlet.
When you see that brotha with a white woman, don't frown and don't take it personally, he's not your man. Now if you see your husband with another woman, that's a different story! When you get passed up for a promotion for someone less qualified, don't take it personal, something better is on the way.
However you decide to deal with the frustrations of life, please, please, please don't walk around frowning all the time. That's just not cute. I have heard that smiling actually releases endorphins into the body, which in my mind make you happier, which in turn make you healthier. Besides, as we age, laugh lines look so much better than frown lines.
p.s. this was a generalization, not referring to all black women or all black men!

Running on Empty
I am so exhausted. Got off close to 2am. Got home around 2:30, up at at 8:30 and it is just Tuesday! It is officially 4th quarter. I can tell by the workload. I am glad they hired another person. I can't wait until she is trained, so I can pass some stuff to her. She will be doing all the stuff that I hate doing ( I hate it because I really wasn't hired to do that) It's a lot of paperwork stuff, and just so not even close to what I want to be doing, so I am glad she is there. As a matter of fact, that is my least favorite part of my duties. It makes me always question my existence. It reminds me of when I was a little girl and I wanted to help my mom grade papers, except for now I have no interest in papers of any kind. I think it is the stapling that drives me to insanity. The filing is not so horrible. I said all that to say in a couple of weeks, I will be done with that!
I hope I can get a new desk - or how about a real desk. I have nowhere to file anything, so things are just on my clipboard in no particular order. Things are just shoved into these stackable bins in no order, because I barely have room to get to them.... arrgghhh.
What a great career move....

MMQB - THE CURSE IS BROKEN
FINALLY, FINALLY FINALLY! THE JAGS FINALLY BEAT TENNESSEE IN THEIR HOUSE! BRAVO. WHAT A GREAT GAME. THANK YOU DEFENSE FOR KEEPING US IN THE GAME. AND THANK YOU OFFENSE FOR PUTTING TOGETHER THAT LAST DRIVE - ABSOLUTE BRILLIANCE! YOU TOOK MOST OF THE TIME OFF THE CLOCK, SCORED A TOUCHDOWN AND GOT THE 2 POINT CONVERSION. OH, THANK YOU SPECIAL TEAMS, FOR STOPPING TENNESEE'S 2 POINT CONVERSION, EVEN THOUGH WE STILL WOULD HAVE WON.
Okay, I am probably the only one who picked the Jags to win this one. To be honest, they are playing every second of all 4 quarters which is why I believe they are winning. That was the main thing they did wrong last season - so many games last season were lost in the last couple minutes of the game....
Arizona at Atlanta, 1:00 ATL How can a game with no touchdown be interesting - MV, baby. Ugly, but a W is a W.
Baltimore at Cincinnati, 1:00 CIN OK, so I was wrong about this one, I didn't actually see the game, but it looks like Baltimore kicked butt.
Philadelphia at Detroit, 1:00 PHI , Not at all suprising - good job Donovan and Co.
Houston at Kansas City, 1:00 KC Arrghhh, what is going on in Arrowhead? Trent, an interception in the endzone that was returned 102 yards for a touchdown? Are you kidding me? The defense is bad enough without those kinds of things happening.
Pittsburgh at Miami, 1:00 MIA (ok, Miami has no offense, but a helluva defense. Pitt is suspect on both sides of the ball) I didn't see this one either, but from the stats it appears that maybe Miami's Offense gave the game to Pitt, packaged in 2 interceptions....
Chicago at Minnesota, 1:00 MINN (tough call - I really don't know, but I am going to give MINN a chance since they are at home), good game - Congrats Vikes.
Cleveland at N.Y. Giants, 1:00 CLE (7 turnovers and still only won by 6 pts, hmmm go Browns)
OK, well at least they created turnovers. My bad G-men, I underestimated you.
New Orleans at St. Louis, 1:00 STL Gross, I went with the home team, because this was tough, and N.O. hung in there. A lot of heart, good job.
Jacksonville at Tennessee, 1:00 JAX (all logic would say go for TENN, but I never will. I love my Jags too much) ; see comments above
San Diego at Denver, 4:05 DEN No surprises here!
Green Bay at Indianapolis, 4:15 IND Dang, did anybody play defense? It wasn't a complete runaway, but IND did come out on top.
San Francisco at Seattle, 4:15 SF Whoa, not even close! I just picked SF because I was thinking of the gool ol days, not so anymore..... good job Seattle
Tampa Bay at Oakland, 8:30 OAK OK, I though Oakland would win, but dang, that was a beat-down.
So far I am 7-6, not a good week for me overall, but a fantastic week for JAX :) Still waiting on Monday Night Game. Go Dallas!

It wasn't meant to be today
So, I was supposed to do my all favorite past time today with a couple of co-workers, but because we got off work so late last night, we couldn't do it. Last night was wacky, but it comes with the territory. So I decided I would go ahead and do it anyway. So just as I made it to the mall, I got a call from a friend and I had to go pick up gear immediately for a presentation tomorrow. I have been working on that all day and soon the malls will be closed. So perhaps I am not meant to have the sweaters I was on the hunt for.....
Hmmm, is it wrong to have a little buyer's remorse and take stuff back? I noticed that I have been doing that lately. Like I bought this entire outfit and for some reason it looked a lot better in the store, than it did at home. (maybe the lighting and the music in the store made me feel like a superstar). Anyway, after trying it on a couple of times at home, I just wasn't feeling it, so I never actually wore the thing. It just sat in my closet, in hopes that I might change my mind and wear it. But I never did, so I took it back.
Oh, and why do you need a driver's license to take stuff back? They don't ask for one when you purchase something (unless you are writing a check or something). It mainly irritated me because my license was in the car, and I had to go all the way back to the car to get it..... arrrggghhh - good exercise though :)
Well, it's back to work.

TMQ
Tuesday Morning QB
Overall, not bad for the second week. 11-5. I was sure the Skins would be able to handle the Giants, but they really beat themselves. I thought Pittsburgh could at least beat Baltimore, since B-more's O is less than explosive, but I guess I overestimated Pittsburgh. Thank you Jacksonville for playing good defense. KC could take some lessons from you. If you can get past Tennessee this week, I will feel really good about this season. Dante, I know I picked Philly to win, but I thought it would be much closer. If you could just chill on the fumbles, you would be all good.
That being said, here are my picks for this week.
Sunday, Sept. 26
Arizona at Atlanta, 1:00 ATL Vick looked good last week.
Baltimore at Cincinnati, 1:00 CIN Still haven't bought Baltimore's hype. I am going for Marvin.
Philadelphia at Detroit, 1:00 PHI I think Lions come out with an L. It may just be Philly's year this year finally. Good team, lousy fans.
Houston at Kansas City, 1:00 KC (please, you are really starting to worry me, play a little D)
Pittsburgh at Miami, 1:00 MIA (ok, Miami has no offense, but a helluva defense. Pitt is suspect on both sides of the ball)
Chicago at Minnesota, 1:00 MINN (tough call - I really don't know, but I am going to give MINN a chance since they are at home)

New Orleans at St. Louis, 1:00 STL
Jacksonville at Tennessee, 1:00 JAX (all logic would say go for TENN, but I never will. I love my Jags too much)
San Diego at Denver, 4:05 DEN I don't know what happened to SD, they had one year where they looked promising, in fact every team in their division was tough that year, but they apparently need some re-building.
Green Bay at Indianapolis, 4:15 IND It would be kinda cool in IND lost and Jax won, but I am not betting on it. I think IND has the goods to beat GB hands down.
San Francisco at Seattle, 4:15 SF I am not to familiar with either team anymore. I know some of the players, but all in all this is a stab in the dark.
Tampa Bay at Oakland, 8:30 OAK (I don't think there will be a superbowl repeat!) It will be interesting to see how Sapp does in this game.
Monday, Sept. 27
Dallas at Washington, 9:00 DAL The skins haven't convinced me fully that this curse is broken. I hope they can break it and make this a bona fide rivalry again, but I will take the odds on this one.

You Call that Music?
A couple of days ago I did a Cheers to the musical artist tribute, I guess this could be called Jeers to the musical wannabes.
Here is where I place some of the worse offenders to my ears and psyche.
Can someone write an original song please? I hear the same old recycled music with a hip hop beat behind it accompanied by weak lyrics. I Don't Wanna Know - Mario Winans is a prime example. As for me, I do wanna know, tell me straight up, cuz if your're cheating, I need to move on with life. Peace. A better example is Puffy - Every Breath you Take or whatever he renamed the song to - how could the Police let him have that song?
Britney Spears - admittedly, I thought she was kinda cute when she first came out. Not a great singer, but entertaining. Then she turned into a big slut and the clothes got skimpier and the dances more provocative. This last album - well I've only heard the songs on the radio and they are torturous. Toxic is probably the one of the worst songs I've heard in awhile. The music is extremely grating, her voice is thin and cheap and well the song just sucks. A Bobby Brown remake? Who remakes a Bobby Brown song? Seriously. It could be worse though, she could be trying to make over a Prince or Stevie Wonder song, and it would kill me to see her butcher a classic.
NKOTB - I didn't understand the hype, but back in the day they were all the craze. Every little tween loved them, except me.
Milli Vanilli - I couldn't stand you even before the truth came out, and to think you were faking it the whole time....
J. Lo- the J. Lo phenomenon is baffling to me. Wasn't she a fly girl on In Living Color? Ok dancer, yes. Actress - only in Selena, but Singer - ARE YOU KIDDING? Oh, and I am tripping on all the hype about her butt. BIG FREAKIN DEAL. Black women have had curvaceous assets all along and I don't see any press releases about that. I have to respect the mad marketing skills though, clothing line, fragrance, and very jive ass public relationships. Do your thing Jenny from the Block - but please, don't make any more albums - PLEASE!
All Fake Wanna Be Hard Rappers - you know who you are.... all you do is "rap" about ho's, bitches, pimpin, sexing, shooting, killing and dealing. How uplifting for the community at large, but hey you can get a lot a bling, bling, and some fat ass rims. What more is there?
Jessica Simpson - hmmm, nice big voice, but she just screams. Her remake of Take my Breath Away - terrible. Tired of all the hype.
Beyonce - now she doesn't really fit into this category, because the sista can "sang" - she is absolutely phenomenal, but do I have to see/hear her everytime I open a magazine, turn on the tv, turn on the radio or go to the mall? Geez, overkill. I like that she is marketing genius, but I am little worried about this House of Dereon business. Her mother's clothes are garish, tacky, not at all couture, just bad.... I wonder if they will sell.
Shirley Murdock - nothing really wrong with the voice, but can you sing about something other than adultery? As We Lay is probably the worst song ever, because adultery really just is not cute, I don't care how innocent you try to make it sound. The lyrics seem to want you to sympathize with this heifer. Gimme a break. She has the nerve to say, she doesn't mean to hurt her (meaning the wife) yeah, and I wouldn't mean to punch her in the gut (that would be on accident of course) How can you sleep with somebody's husband and not mean to hurt them?
Freak a Leak, My Goodies, Milkshake and other such nonsense - I don't even know the "artists" names but please stop the madness. This is musical suicide. There is no message, no point, no melody, no soul. Just mindless dribble made by future bling blingers. There are a countless number of these songs coming through the airwaves....

TV BLUES prt. 2
Girlfriends, what have you done? I just read that Omarosa will be guest starring on your season premiere. WHY WHY WHY? I can't stand her. Do you feel you need ratings that badly. Why won't you just let that go so we can all forget about Omarosa? Her moment in the sun should have been over after she got fired from the apprentice, but even more so after the finale when she screwed my man Kwame over.
UPN giving Maria Carey a comedy show? Again, WHY, WHY, WHY? Fear Factor in syndication? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

You Are On My Mind
I have been thinking about you -wondering if I should call. There is a little distance between us. I have been exactly where you are. I know how you feel. I see your heart and your dreams. I want to call to let you know that I care, to let you know that if you need me, I will always be there. I want to tell you don't ever give up, don't let the past get in the way of the future. I will always love you - in you, I see myself. I hope it won't be too awkward, but I have to talk to you.
TV BLUES
What has gone wrong? VH-1, what happened to Best Week Ever? That was one of my favorite lazy Saturday Afternoon Guilty Pleasures. Nick at Nite - Fresh Prince? I don't get it. I mean - Fresh Prince was aiiggghhht, but I think it's a little too soon. As long as you keep on the Cosby Show, we can still be friends. Can somebody please bring back A Different World? I love, love, love that show. Dwayne and Whitley are like old friends.
Why, why, why is Fear Factor still on TV? Haven't we been grossed out enough? Why am I being sucked into Real World: Philadelphia? Can somebody put the brakes on the overwhelming amount of Reality TV? Can a network produce another great sitcom? Can the NFL quit tripping and let ESPN show another season of Playmakers?
Can BET cease to exist? Why not call it BMTV? Oh, but even MTV shows more than videos, hmmmm, yeah can it cease to exist? At least UPN is partially coming through for a sista. Can't wait for the new season of Girlfriends, Half and Half, and America's Next Top Model. You can keep All of Us and Eve.... A couple of new shows look promising - Kevin Hill and Second Time Around could be good.
A little disappointed with Joey.... maybe it will grow on me. Not really feeling daytime TV either, well except for The Nanny and Golden Girl re-runs. Thank you, Lifetime. Oh and my usual Y&R and B&B. Just when I almost give up entirely on those two for stupid storylines, they introduce something that draws me back in. Like now, I am wondering what will happen to Devon. Will Neal and Dru break down and adopt? If so, will Lily and Devon make it more the platonic? Tired of Britney and Bobby, Ashley and Brad and Lil' Abbey. Bored with Phyllis and Damon. Will Thorne ever come out on top? Please kill the Kaitlyn/Rick storyline. Gross. Amber/Thomas - gross too. Amber get a brain and leave the kid alone. Thomas is weird looking to me. Who's going to come between Ridge and Brooke this time? Not a Brooke fan. I could almost look past a LOT of her escapades until she got pregnant by her duaghter's husband....scandalous and unforgivable. What kind of mother does that? I miss Bridget - but I am glad they canned the new actress. She didn't do the role justice.
Not much primetime anymore, everything has to be recorded these days. Still haven't watched the new ep. of Apprentice. Just not as excited about it as last year. I really hope there is not a black Omoarosa type on there. Bad for the sistahs. Don't even get me started on her. I hate that she is famous, that she was on Oprah, that she is a liar, cheat and a wanna be diva. I hate that she is a celebrity - she is horrible.
TV One - I am pulling for you - please produce quality programming for young African Americans. I am giving you some time to get it together. I've got scripts! But please, chill on all that B. Smith and Showtime at the Apollo re-runs.... Not really feeling Cowboys of Color....hmmm, yeah, not so much. Like I said, I've got scripts!

Cheers to the Musical Artist
I love Music - lots and lots of music. Music has had such a major impact on my life in so many ways. There are some artists though whose work has touched me in such a profound personal way that I would like to offer a few words of appreciation. This list is by no means exhaustive.
On the Gospel Tip:
Anyone who can sing: "Great is thy Faithfulness" - which is my favorite hymm - reminds me that God is always there, even when I haven't been. If I had to pick my favorite song, this would be it, but I like the soulful, but not overly done version. Please don't add extra syllables to the words, they are beautiful just as they are written.
"We Shall Behold Him" I must admit I love me some Jesus - the more I read about him, the more in love I become. This song so eloquently expresses my desire to meet him face to face.
"O My Soul Loves Jesus" - Kurt Carr and the Kurt Carr Singers. This is one of the best worship songs ever. The vocals are powerful, the lyrics are heartfelt and the music is amazing.
4HIM - This goes back to my cassette days - Your first album got me through my sophomore year of college. Life Goes On is simply the best. Where There is Faith personified my world view and faith in God. Also your CD containing A Man You Would Write About, Every Reason to Believe and Puzzles - my personal favorites, particularly Every Reason to Believe - cuz there were times when I was looking for reasons not to believe.
Fred Hammond - truly an inspiration "When We Praise" is truly a phenomenal praise song.
Richard Smallwood - My absolute # 1 Gospel Artist - best all around.
On the R&B Tip
Stevie Wonder - what can I say? - One of my all time personal favorites. Can you sing at my wedding?
New Edition - My dear sweet Ralph - I was planning on marrying you! "Candy Girl" and "Cool It Now" - my first boy band love. You will always be my #1 boy band. Johnny, you were next on my list, if mea dn Ralph didn't work out.
Michelle N'Degeocello (ok, I probably spelled that wrong) You have the music movies are made of. You bring out emotion and passion that is beyond compare. Saw you live - fabulous concert.
Anita Baker - just simply beautiful - you get better with time. Glad to know you are back. It's been too long.
Janet Jackson (the Janet I grew up with - not the new and improved version) - Control, Rhythm Nation - who couldn't help but groove to those albums.
Guy - Who could forget "I Like" That is one of my as a I call them instant happy song. No matter what kind of crappy day, I am having, I hear this song, and all is well with the world again. Bravo to Gina Prince Blythewood for seeing the genius in this song and including it in Love and Basketball. (the whoel soundtrack was bangin)
Public Enemy/Run DMC/Tribe Called Quest - had to lump you in with the R&B section, because let's be honest - I am not the world's hugest rap fan. Run DMC, the first concert I really wanted to go to, but moms wouldn't let me (probably because I was 11). Public Enemy - you spoke on a social level I could personally relate to, particularly Fear of a Black Planet -always amazed me that so many Caucasians liked you.... and Tribe - what can I say - I dig your style.
On the General Rock Tip:
Madonna/Tina Turner/Cyndi Lauper - The first artists I used to sneak and listen to past bedtime. I will never forget Borderline, What's Love Got to Do With It, and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. My first time really ever listening to "devil music" - church folk term for non-Christian secular music. Boy was my family in for a surprise - that was the tip of the iceberg (see 80's metal)
Billy Joel - I love the Piano Man. For the Longest Time - I love singing along to that - it makes me feel like I really can sing.
Journey - I discovered you way too young. My cousin gave me one of her tapes and my love for you was born. You helped me through the chicken pox. You are the key to my life. I love you so much, a friend of mine bought me the box set. I have most of your albums, mainly in cassette format - I am working on the upgrade to CD. Steve Perry you have a voice like no other.
Dave Matthews Band - One of the reasons I love rock n roll. The Music - incredible. The Voice - Fresh. As much as I bitch about inflated concert prices, I'd pay to see you guys. Plus you are libs - what could be better?
U2 - another concert I would pay to see. My respect level for you grows each passing day. Bono, your social consciousness is inspirational.
"The Way You Love Me" - Faith Hill another insta-happy song.
Trapt - this past winter - no car! How fabulous to have a great cd to listen to on the way to the bus stop.
Puddle of Mudd - you helped me through a very angry period - bravo (the bushit period, hopefully there won't be another 4 years of that)
Peter Gabriel - "In Your Eyes" is one of my all time personal favorites. This made the movie "Say Anything" worth watching again and again especially when Lloyd blasts his boombox in front of Diane Court's window.
Late 80's metal - just when I'd gotten past Wham and Duran Duran, I had a new thing, thanks to Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Anthrax, Metallica, Tesla etc, etc. Snuck out to see many concerts, met some of you, helped me through my teenage years and my need to carve out my own identity.
There are many more, but I could type this all day......

All Dressed Up
I got a great outfit while I was in NYC. It is mainly in celebration of me dropping a pant/skirt size - it's finally official ;) But I really don't have any where or reason to wear it, yet. Single life is cool sometimes, but sometimes I just wanna go out on a really nice date and kick back, listen to some good music and maybe do a little dancing and relax. I guess I don't need a date necessarily for that. I guess I am not too gung ho on the whole bar scene - believe me my track record at bars is atrocious. So where do I meet a really great guy that I am attracted to and has similar goals and interests? Work is out of the question - workplace drama is so lame - and yet work is where I spend most of my waking hours.... hmmm, church is not entirely out of the question, but I am not looking for SUPER CHRISTIAN, just a normal HUMAN Christian. And let's be honest, some of the guys I have met at church are far worse than non-Christian men when it comes to morality and decency. I need a man who can understand my need to attend early morning service so I can get home in time for kick-off. Someone who can accept all my quirks and my great moments and bitchy moments, without judging me. Ahhh, I was starting to get carried away. So the question is, where do I meet Mr. Wonderful? I am not sure I can express this exactly how I mean it.... I want someone who is attracted to me physically initially, but not driven by that. I want them to be attracted to who I am.
I guess what I am saying is please don't call me and tell me I have a great body 3-4 times within our first 3 minute conversation. Don't even mention my body until at least a few dates. I mean you can still be tactful and say "You look nice", but please do not X-RAY me or use words like DAMN and Bootylicious in reference to my appearance. How ghetto. How not my type. And how obvious. YOU ARE NOT GETTING ANY ON THE FIRST DATE! I would venture to say that you are not getting any at all, because that is so NOT a turn-on.
I said all that to say, I need a good venue to wear my cute outfit. I love clothes way too much. I would probably be rich, I didn't love clothes so much. (ok, maybe not). Now I just gotta find place to wear them. I find it interesting that I don't have very many church clothes. On the real, my skirts are a little too short for church. Not slutty short, but certainly not prudish.
So my assignment is to find a few events where I can show off my now smaller size :) and maybe meet someone who knows someone.... who knows a single, attractive, gainfully employed, disease free man that would be interested in.... well maybe Starbucks or something for now.

Here's to Football!
Yay, it's the most wonderful time of the year! September starts the football season. College Football, NFL - both fabulous in different ways. I already had to give props to Miami in their come from behind victory over FSU. Fabulous, baby, simply fabulous. As always, I do my weekly picks, sometimes I am money sometimes not - it's not an exact science but fun nonetheless. Everybody that knows me, knows I love the Jags (first and foremost) and I am hoping that they can turn it around this season. I am also a Chiefs fan. (A product of my multiple child hood hometowns). I was hoping the Chiefs would get some D in the off season, but based on last weeks showing versus Denver, it's not looking too promising. I really was pulling for Priest and the gang.... Philly looks good this season - maybe they have all the right pieces now. T.O. is definitely a plus. Don't know what happened to the Bucs....wow, losing to the Skins - who knew? Actually I thought the Skins would win - for a change I am impressed with their off season acquisitions - particularly Portis. I don't have any superbowl predictions yet, but I would love to be there! It's in my hometown this year!
I do hope that there are some new contenders. Carolina was a nice surprise last year. Little bored with New England. I would love to see Jax there and maybe Minnesota..... one can dream!
So here are my picks this week.
Sunday, Sept. 19
St. Louis at Atlanta, 1:00 - ATL
Pittsburgh at Baltimore, 1:00 - PITT - I just can't jump on the B-more bandwagon until they get some reliable Offense. I doubt it will be a good day for Jerome Bettis, though. I am counting on Hines Ward to save the day.
Houston at Detroit, 1:00 - DET
Chicago at Green Bay, 1:00 - GB (only because they looked good against Carolina) They have potential to be a good team when Brett Favre doesn't try to do everything. When he does that, turnovers abound.
Denver at Jacksonville, 1:00 - JAX (gotta go with the home team :) )
Carolina at Kansas City, 1:00 - KC, - okay I officially changed my pick to KC. What was I thinkig picking Carolina over my second team? Let's just hope the Chiefs Offense can out score Carolina.
San Francisco at New Orleans, 1:00 Hmmm - who cares??? New Orleans
Washington at N.Y. Giants, 1:00 - Skins, not too sure I am sold on Coughlin for NYG yet. But I am definitely feeling Gibbs right now.
Indianapolis at Tennessee, 1:00 - IND , ahh the Titans, I always root against them. It's a Jag thing. Plus I love Tony Dungy.
Seattle at Tampa Bay, 4:05 - Seattle
New England at Arizona, 4:15 - NE
Cleveland at Dallas, 4:15 - Cleveland hmmm, I wonder which QB will have the better day?
Buffalo at Oakland, 4:15 - OAK
N.Y. Jets at San Diego, 4:15 - NYJ, J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets Jets!
Miami at Cincinnati, 8:30 - CIN
Monday, Sept. 20
Minnesota at Philadelphia, 9:00 This is tough - both are looking good - I guess I will go with the home team - PHI, but for the record I like Minnesota, I actually hoped they would have made it to the playoffs last year, they have a lot of heart.

Ahhh, Producers....
I often wonder in amazement how people get their jobs. I know that in my field, networking is EVERYTHING, but shouldn't common sense and a small amount of skill be involved? I mean, come on, people. I was really pissed that I was at work until almost 1:00am trying to resolve this "project". Ordinarily, if there were issues besides someone's incompetence and procrastination, I wouldn't mind staying late. But this was ridiculous. This "producer" wanted clips from about 8 different shows. No problem. I did't get the instructions until almost 11pm - not too thrilled, but whatever - things happen. I read the "instructions" and then I was like oh, heck no. There were so vague that the editor had to watch all the shows to find these clips. Can you give us some timecodes please? Who wants to watch all that crap? I feel that the least you could do is provide some specific information, if you are going to be late....
Don't even get me started on some of the regulars. I often wonder how they keep a job. I mean, HJ for one,,,, geez and RK, hello dingbat. Organization please? How do you not know what's going on with YOUR projects? Curious, indeed.
Ahhh, but things at my job don't make sense. I am very disenchanted right now. I still don't have a cabinet, nor do I have a cell phone, which makes me wonder..... Are they just trifling or is there some reason I am not getting basic supplies? I still don't know who my boss is.... no one has bothered to say anything to me, since this reorganization thing started.
But in a world where an intern gets a better job than people who have worked and paid their dues, why be surprised? You know I understand about networking and stuff and that's great, but to overlook all the other overqualified people for someone with limited experience....not too cool. I wasn't personally affected by this, but I find it to be strange. I will admit, that if I was still at my first job, I would be pissed. But only for a moment. It took me so long to leave my first position, mainly because of HR and two other people left at the same time, so there was no way they were going to let me leave too. So I had to wait - but it's ok. I know that God has something great in store for me.

I luv NYC
I am so glad I spent the weekend with friends in NYC. It was such a blast. I had no idea how much I needed to get away - it was perfect. NYC is so overstimulating - always something interesting going on - it's fabulous. We stayed at an awesome hotel in Midtown and their breakfast rocks. Did some shopping and finally a happy hour, a little clubbing, more shopping a carriage ride through central park, oh did I mention shopping? We also went to a cool house party and I learned about the fascinating concept of a twinkie. Who knew? We saw a wedding which was cool - we looked like "those touristers" but there were a lot of onlookers. The Open was fun, really glad I went - of course I woud have liked for it to go to 3 sets, but what can you do? I was hoping to Lindsey and Serena, but it was still all good. Went a street fair near times square and and there was an international festival right in front of our hotel. I must go back there. I am so glad that everyone agreed to go - it was a nice bonding experience.

You Just Don't Get It
Dr. Phil said something along these lines: Insanity is defined by repeating the same behaviour and expecting different results. I have come to terms with my insanity and on the path to recovery.
But you, you seem convinced that your way will work. It hasn't worked so far, so why do you keep trying the same thing? Do you think I changed my mind? Maybe you think I forgot? Do you think your charm will somehow yield a different result?
I wonder, does something get lost in the translation? Just because I am not screaming and yelling does not mean that I am any less passionate. What does it take to get through to you? I thought you were reasonably intelligent. What goes through your head, when you conjure up these pathetic inquiries? It is not impresive, inspiring or of any interest to me. Are you capable of LISTENING and UNDERSTANDING English?
I have never been shy about expressing my feelings, but it seems that the only way to get through to you is to show you. Words apparently are not enough.
So we are at a stalemate. I am fine with that. I will not compromise one bit. Respect and honor come before all. It always has and it always will be that way for me. Anything else is a dealbreaker. Don't you get it?
Song: "It's My Life", No Doubt ( I like their version best)

The Holiday is Over
This weekend was everything it was meant to be. I didn't do ANYTHING.... Yesterday, went to check out Paparazzi with a friend. It was a decent flick. I connected with the lead character and his family, so it was very watchable. The ending was somewhat predictable, because there really only one way it could have a satisfying end. All in all, it was nice change of pace. I watched a little tennis and was really impressed with Davenport and Petrova. Davenport is playing better than she has is a long time. Venus showed some heart at the end and made her work for the victory, which turned out to nerve wracking for me to watch because I like both players. The way Petrova handled Henin-Hardenne was amazing. I've never seen her play so well. I thought it would go to three sets with Justine coming out on top after some sort of tiebreak, but Petrova put her away in straight sets....Serena and Capriati play tonight and I won't be able to watch :( - crazy little thing called work.
I took a break from everything, so now it is back to business.

Rest Please
It has been a pretty uneventful weekend. Just the way I needed it to be. Ordinarily, I would be stir crazy by now. But I have been running around so much, this is a welcome change. It was ambitious of me to think I was going to complete this laundry list of things during the holiday. All I have really done is watch TV, sleep, eat and watch more TV and go to the gym. Part of me feels a little guilty, because I really have a lot to do. But I am just so tired. I feel like my body wants to make up for weeks of lost sleep. On tap for tonight, a Blockbuster evening - 13 going on 30 and Office Space. Should be great.
Maybe I will aim for getting some of my chores out of the way tomorrow.

Who ATE My Sandwich?
A line from "Friends" a few years back when Ross left his sandwich in the refrigerator at the office and someone else ate it. Ross made a huge big deal about it and as a result I think he had to go to anger management counseling. (I can't remember for sure, but I think that is what happened). I can relate to Ross on so many levels regarding this. Why would you take something, especially food, that doesn't belong to you? That is gross - who knows who made it, who touched it etc. And most importantly, not only is it stealing, it's rude.
Now, my situation is not nearly as dramatic, but I am very touchy about my food, not to mention that at work I really have no place to store it (but that's another story) So this woman walks in, and starts peeking in my bag. I had Baha Fresh. I don't remember what she said or really what I said, because I was so annoyed that she had the audacity to go through my food. I don't know her like that. We haven't bonded. I have never shared a meal, drink or even a five minute conversation with her, and she is opening my bag? Granted, had she been one of my friends, I wouldn't have minded so much, but I am already a little annoyed with her.
She has been consistently rude to one of my favorite people for no reason at all and for some reason, I am personally upset by it. I mean, who does she think she is? There is no reason to be rude in a professional environment in my opinion, but to be rude to one of the nicest people there without cause is WAY over the top. I mean if she had tried that crap with me..... well, she better not. She may have thought I was kidding yesterday, but if she tries going through my food again, she will find out. I don't want some random person breathing on my food. Gross!
Gross!
Humbled
In my quiet thoughts, I often have time to think and reflect on my blessings. Sometimes I focus my energy on what I don't have, but when I really take time to think about how fortunate I am, especially in light of the world around me, I can do nothing but be thankful. I am so often awed by God's love for me. It is humbling yet comforting to know that in spite of all of my shortcomings, and all the times I fall well below my good intentions, that God still loves me anyway.
